"Creating the World of the Play: Intermediate Acting and an Introduction to Technical Theater" is a two-in-one class covering scene studies of various Shakespeare texts and is an introduction to various aspects of the technical side of the theater. This class is perfect for high school students interested in expanding their "actor's toolbox" by taking an in-depth look at the actor's process with regards to classical text, AND by having a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of a show. Students will simultaneously dive into the rich, exciting text of Shakespeare and design their own showcase at the end of the class, discovering what it means to be a part of a truly "ensemble" experience. In this class you will:
  • Explore the audition process with texts from Shakespeare
  • Figure out what the heck he's talking about!
  • PLAY in Shakespeare scenes presented in a final showcase
  • Engage in games that will reveal the creative possibilities of light, sound, costume and more!
  • Create a portfolio of your design work
  • Design your own showcase
Ready, Set, Characterize!

Learning how to create a believable character is an integral part of being an actor. In this interactive class, students will learn how to apply characterization to both monologues and mimes by using different acting techniques. Through a series of fun and engaging activities, students will be instructed in memorization, physicality, and improvisation. This class is perfect for both beginners and intermediate students ready to take their acting techniques to the next level.

How do two people stay together? This is one of many questions explored in Rajiv Joseph's "Gruesome Playground Injuries." In this story, we are given the rare opportunity of getting a lifelong glimpse at two people's interconnected lives. Kayleen and Doug fight through injuries, both physical and psychological to get at the answer to this question...if there is an answer. From an eight year old riding his bike off the roof, to awkward middle school dances, to climbing a telephone pole in search of "the shine of you, bringing me home again," this play is at once hilarious, poignant, true, breathtaking, awkward, frustrating and inspiring...much like life itself.
PLEASE NOTE: Adult themes and profanity. Not recommended for youth under 16.
